HOT Plug!

The factory 120v 3 prong plug to my air compressor was getting hot so I replaced it with a universal 3 prong plug and it's not getting hot now! Doesn't make much sense?

The conductors in the cord were most likely broken from the compressor being unplugged by the cord. Next time, don't unplug it by pulling on the cord.

Also possible that the original cord had thin cheap prongs and the new one doesn't. Better contact means less heat at the connection.

Yeah, the original plug was flimsy, the new one is beefier!

I bet the new one also has a u-shaped ground and screws and pressure plates rather than crimped-on prongs. Just out of curiosity, what plug did you get?
