Doerr Electric Motor LR-13758 (washer Motor) Pleas help me wire this thing..

Hi Folks
I have an 850RPM 230 volt 1/2HP Doerr motor. Name plate says, "washer motor"
I want to use it in my shop but I have no idea how to wire it..
It has 5 wires coming out of it.
Red, White, Black, Green, Purple

If I test between red and white the meter shows 2.2 ohms of resistance.

Black Green and Purple all show dead short to each other...

no wire shows dead short to chassis (housing).
the wires are not labelled in any way.

Thanks for your help in advance..
Thanks for this great site...
Cheers.

Welcome to the forums!

If you post a picture of the nameplate, that may help us see what you're looking at. See How To Put Pictures In Your Post.

At the same time, if you tell us where you are (fill in the information in your profile) that will help us have a better understanding of the electric service where you are.

That is a very old motor, Doerr was bought from Grainger by Emerson in I believe 1986 and I don't see any notations on the nameplate mentioning Emerson. The Cedarburg plant was shut down I think about 1987 or so and the Doerr label was pretty much eliminated. Emerson Motors was subsequently bought by Nidec in 2011. That is probably a washdown duty motor and not likely a washing machine motor. Washing machine motors from the last 30 or 40 years don't have an outer case and I am assuming your motor is Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled. I don't have a clue how to wire that motor, but you could try Googling Emerson washdown motors and see what you get or you could call Nidec engineering and see if any of the old Doerr engineers are still around. Need a phone number?

I'm sorry I didn't follow through with a number for you, but here it is. Try calling (314) 595-8000. You might also browse these Frequently Asked Questions to see if you find an answer to your questions. U.S. Motors is just one of the Nidec brands, there are many including Doerr. These questions seem to cover most brands.

Doerr did supply motors to at least one commercial laundry equipment company. I remember repairing Milnor washers back in the '80's with those motors. Those motors were very well built.
