Did I hit a wire?
I'm moving our wall-mounted tv and had to drill into stud for mount. When I was drilling the 2nd hole, the porch light and kitchen lights flickered. I drilled into the hole again to see if I was hallucinating, but it happened again. Those lights are on different circuits. I didn't know if I had hit a wire or not.
So I took the trusty hammer and made a bigger hole to see if I'd caused an electrical hazard that will burn down our house. I see a wire to the right of the stud, toward the back. The hole I drilled is in the left side. I don't see any damage, but smelled something similar to the old electric train smell.
Should i be worried? What happened? The smell is gone.

Is it possible that there's something loose, like if drilling shook the wire? That wall is adjacent to garage, I believe the garage lights connect to the front light. They run to a wire that goes into the top part of that wall.

Do you want to trust that your house won't burn down?
I understand that you don't want to damage the wall any more than you have to. If you want to minimize that, get a cheap borescope and look into the hole.
