Wiring Transfer Switch to Generator Inlet Box
I'm installing a Transfer Switch to my main panel. The panel is on one end of the house and the driveway area where I'd like to have my generator is on the other. I'd need to run approx 60 feet of wire to the box and then be able to use the 10ft extension to connect the generator to the box. The generator is a Generac 5500 if that matters. The instructions for my transfer switch say no more than 100 feet but some have told me I'd have too much of a voltage drop with even the 60+10 feet. Any real world opinions here? Thanks for the input.

What transfer switch are you using?
What gauge wire are you running? You need to run the appropriate size wire.

As long as you're under 100', you don't have to worry about voltage drop. Just use the correct sized wire and you'll be good to go. Presumably, you're connecting to a 120/240v 30A twist lock connector on the generator, so you'd use 10/3 wire w/ ground.

Thanks Guys. It is a Reliance Controls 30 Amp 10 Circuit Manual Transfer Switch and the wire I picked up is 10/3 plus ground. I could go a shorter inside run and use a longer generator cable outside but this makes more sense.
