Christmas lights wiring diagram.

G'day from Australia, a newbie here, thanks for having me aboard.

I have a set of Christmas lights, LED with controller which can give 6 variations of flash rate. It's an Emc Type TTPD-1. Flasher is ok.
Problem is that every 2nd led on string doesn't light. There are 3 cables from
controller one of which is the return.
The rest is a maze, which I could possible trace out given enough time... it's a long string tightly twisted with 4 cables from 1st Led until the last.

Anyone have any clues as to wiring method? Thanks

Welcome and G'day to you.

It's very tricky to fix those types of lighting strings.
Let's see if you can check the string out.

Lock the set of lights on constant on.
You can't possibly troubleshoot them when they're blinking on and off.

Set your meter to DC voltage

Connect the minus lead of your meter to the common return wire.

Touch the plus lead to one of the control wires from controller to lights.
Now check the other one.

If they are the same then the problem is in the light string.
You will have to check the connection to the LED at every second point.

If one of the control wires is dead then it's a controller problem and I'm not even sure if that's repairable.

Hope this helps some.......good luck

Thanks for that I'll try it... lol will have to get a couple of sharp pins to pierce the insulation.. no open connections, and leds are encapsulated.
May tell son in law to spend some money a new set..
Bit of a challenge though so I'll persevere. They are series parallel in groups of 20, just to make it a bit harder...
