Is it bad to have 2 sources of power in the same box? I'm hooking up a box with 2 3way switches for some lights on the top and bottom of a stairway, the box will also contain a seperate switch from a different power source that will control a different light.

No code issue with that setup. The grounds from both circuits do need to be spliced together.

Where I work there is a standing policy to label every electrical box with the circuit breaker number and a warning if the box contains more than one power source. For the home it makes perfect sense to label the back side of the cover plate where it will be seen before someone sticks their fingers in there.

Yeah, I like to take a sharpie and write the breaker number(s) on the back side of the cover plate for each switch and receptacle.

.

I always mark on the inside of the box with a sharpie.

Anytime in the future.....the cover could inadvertently get moved to another location.

This could happen during re-painting of the house etc......then everything could become mislabeled.

Wouldn't in my house but that's a great point, I'm going to start marking the boxes.
