So switching the transformer in order to use the available 16 volt lighted buttons is not going to work. A 16 volt lighted doorbell switch burns out quickly on 24 volts. I suppose a well-sized resister in series with the 16 volt bulb will preserve the light. I wanted to move to the use of an LED lamp inside the button. It seems the resister would need to be about 1200 ohms as the LED runs at about 2 volts. Still working on this . . . No lighted button at this point.

Hi, Hopefully a quick question... I have what looks to be a pretty basic circuit--- Power comes out of the circuit breaker panel, and goes into the basement... So far so good... If I shut off that breaker, the whole basement (not including the gas furnace -- it has its own circuit) goes dead. But before the power even reaches the basement for the lights, it first goes to a switch at the top of the basement stairs. When I throw that switch, a single light goes on inside the basement... (Note... Even if I leave that switch off, the rest of the basement still has power...) The problem is that the stairs outside the basement themselves remain dark -- a fall hazard. So what I want to do is take power off that switch-controlled light inside the basement and hook up another light that shines into the stairway itself... When I throw the switch at the top of the stairs, I want both lights to come on... Here are a couple of links to pics... The light will be a low wattage LED, so power shouldn't be a problem, and I'm a sort of a handyman, so the mechanics of actually hooking up the fixture/junction box won't be a big deal...
