GFCI in bathroom

Hello,I purchase an old house and in the process of revamping bathroom and adding a GFCI outlet. How far off the ground should it be placed and how close to the sink can it be?

The only thing stated in the code is it must be within 3' of the edge of the basin and can't be more than 12" below the countertop. I should think the height would match the light switching (for aesthetics only), which is generally about 48" centered from the finished floor. I would not install the receptacle directly over the basin, but to one side, and even on an adjacent wall for convenience.

Mod Note: These requirements are from the NEC and may differ from the CEC in Canada

Failed to see the "Canada", so as Ray noted, check local codes regarding this.
