[Number of Receptacles Per Breaker?] electrical outlets in breaker box!!!

We have a 60 amp service. When I hit the breaker to fix an outlet half the basement goes out. How many outlets can one breaker support at any given time?

That is to be expected in an installation as old as yours. It wouldn't be uncommon for them to all be "spidered" off the overhead light. In US code there is no limit to the number of receptacles.

In Canada, current code limits the number of outlets (receptacles and lights) to 12 per circuit. I have no idea when that limit was put in place, so if you have an older house, it's probably grandfathered in.

There's nothing pariuclarly wrong with that, though if you start overloading circuits or plan on adding anything new, you may need to look into adding either circuits or an upgraded service.
