Phone land-line is all scratchy after moving an electrical outlet.

I moved an electrical outlet in the basement today. It's nowhere near any phone lines as far as I can tell. However after completing the job I've noticed that all land-line phones in the house have really bad reception all-of-a-sudden. This includes wireless phones as well as an antique black rotary phone that doesn't even plug into an outlet. I'm guessing it's a coincidence and I've called AT&T to check out the problem. But I'm curious as to people's opinions... any possibility that simply moving an electrical outlet can cause problems with the quality of my land-line?

Depending on how old your service is......you may have a demarc (junction box) on the outside of your house where you can easily disconnect (unplug) the house wiring from the phone line thus determining where the problem is.

Usually unless you cut the wiring..... installing the outlet was just a coincidence.

If the problem is determined to be inside your house.....you will be charged by the phone company.
