50 Amp RV hookup wiring question

Hello,

I have a new 50 amp hookup installed for my RV. I am replacing my house batteries. I checked the wiring of the outlet and I see there is no white wire. The installer jumped the ground from the rounded connection to the connection where the white wire is supposed to go. I have searched the forums and don't see an answer to this. Is this acceptable? What problems can this cause?

Thanks

Bootleg neutrals or very dangerous and never allowed.

Was this originally a 30 amp RV receptacle he tried to convert to 50 amps? If so for a variety of reasons it can't be done. I'd suggest you ask for your money back and hire a real electrician or let us walk you through the install.

You will have current flowing on your entire grounding system. Possibly on your water pipes and gas lines as well, if they are also connected your grounding system. This is not good and should be disconnected until it can be repaired.
