how many recessed lights should I wire to 1 circuit?

how many recessed lights should I wire to 1 circuit?

I am considering installing new hi hats, how many 60 watt equavalent lights (led or cfl ) can go on 1 circuit?

You can load a lighting circuit up to 80% of full overcurrent rating. That would be 12 amps, or 1440 watts for a 15 amp circuit. Or 16 amps, or 1920 watts of a 20 amp circuit.

When planning, you should figure using the largest lamp that can be installed into the can. Even though you are not going use the largest lamp, somebody else in life might. That info can be found on the label of the can.

Also I think circuits are allowed a maximum of 10 devices.

Sorry Dane, that is not true in the US. (I think it might be in Canada) Your likely thinking of load calculations for receptacles. The Code only requires that the circuit to be sized to carry the load to be served.

Of course you are correct. I just did a quick search online and found several sources saying there is no specified quantity limit. I guess I've just learned my new thing for the day.
