backuo generator hookup

I have a PTO powered generator that I will use to power the house during a power outage. I have a transfer switch with a four while inverted male receptacle. My generator has a 3 wire 240 volt 50 amp plug. I have a 6/3 cord, how do I hook up the four wire female end on the 3 conductor cord?

Thanks

Does your generator only output 240 without a neutral?

It does have a neutral, because it has a couple 120 volt outlets. I checked the 240 volt outlet and I had good voltage between the 2 hot legs and good voltage to the ground. Do I hook the third wire in the cord, to the ground, the neutral, or have a jumper between both of them in the female 4 wire cord end?

Could you post the make / model of the gen? If its older possible it should be rewired and a new outlet installed.

Is the 3-prong receptacle on the generator a 10-50 or 6-50?

You need to rewire the generator head to replace the end with a 14-50, then. It's not hard, we can help you. Can you post pictures?
