Question UF or NM required, outdoor outlet under deck?

I currently have a power outlet on the outside of the wall on the back of my house. The is powered by a cable that runs under the house and then along the outside of the wall (inside conduit) and through my deck.

Ultimately, I would like to tap into this outlets power feed to add an additional outlet below the deck (along with a wireless switch) to power some lights along the deck's railing.

As the run of new cable needed will likely be less than a foot, and as it will be somewhat shielded by the deck, does it matter if I use UF or NM cable?

Thanks,
Dan

Best practice would be to use conduit and individual wires such as THWN in conduit. NM-b can never be used outside even in conduit.
