Question adding outdoor lighting..need help...1 curcut....plug & switch...

Hi, mom drak here..replacing outdoor plug with a plug that has a switch on top that should light an outdoor light. Black an white are connected at bottom to plug....lights wire black & white are on top with switch. Plug work....light won't. What am I doing wrong? I've not removed the connected that attaches both blacks. I want plug live and lights on when I need them hence the switch.

The white wires should be pigtailed and attached to the silver colored neutral screw for the receptacle. The black to the light is your switchleg and should be attached to the switch, opposite of the hot wire. Refer to the package the combination device came in. Install an in-use weatherproof cover.

This all needs to be GFCI protected.
