Above ground pool pump suddenly tripping GFI outlet

I have had my above ground pool filter (1HP) plugged into a GFCI outlet using an extension cord for over a year, and suddenly today it began tripping. I tried swapping out the extension cord without success and tried using a different GFCI outlet without success. All connections seem to be dry. Any ideas why this would suddenly have started tripping the GFCI outlet?

By code extension cords are not intended as a replacement for the correct wiring method. They are intended for temporary use only. (2008 NEC Section 590)

Since you have tried all the usual tests it sounds like failing insulation on the pump motor. You can take it to a motor shop and have it tested or just replace it.
