2014 GFCI Changes

Will the dedicated dishwasher circuit,,next year,be required to be on gfci anyway.and the dedicated laundry circuit too?

Note this is not the 2-20 amp gfci,-seperate dedicated countertop circuits.which can't be used for disposal/dishwasher .

I have seen that the DW will require GFI protection under the 2014. I don't remember seeing anything about the laundry other than AFCI.

Isn't it already required that a dedicated line to the dishwasher be GFCI protected at either the wall outlet or the electric panel? Or is that 2014 proposed changes?

Anyways, I think it would be a good idea to have a GFCI protected circuit breaker for a dedicated line to the dishwasher. Do you agree?

Kitchen countertop receptacles have required gfi protection for many years. Dishwashers do not currently need gfi protection. That is changing with the 2014 NEC.

I don't see the need for the change.

Since DW and GD often share does that mean GFCI by the default even if not required when a GFCI breaker is used or will GD also require a GFCI regardless?

Laundry receptacles are required to be GFCI protected under current code if they are within 6' of a sink.

Any receptacle within 6' of any sink must be GFCI protected. Mop sink, slop sink, laundry sink, kitchen sink - makes no nevermind.

Re: 210-8(D)
This would include a receptacle outlet or a hard wired outlet for a dishwasher.
Not too confusing. Hard wired circuit would be a more appropriate description.

I like that they used "hard wired outlet." It makes it clear that "outlet" is not just another word for "receptacle."

At least not to the folks who update the NEC.
