receptical

I was at my daughters house, when they pluged a light into a receptical. It sparked. I pulled the recp. out to see wiring charged and shorting out in box. fixed the wiring and replaced with new recp. No light. I'm getting 110v from ground wire to hot wire and 110v from ground to neut. But not across recp. from neut. to hot?

Welcome to the forums.

You have an open neutral wire either at that location or before it gets there.

Somewhere on the circuit there is a device plugged in or connected. If the neutral gets lost that connected device will allow the hot to travel back up the neutral. The neutral completes the path to the panel......if it's open there is no completion of circuit.

Have you tested that light in a different receptacle? Have you used a different light or other appliance to test this receptacle?

Remember to move any backstabs to the screws and the problem may be at either the last working or first non working receptacle. If any lights on the breaker the problem could be in a wire nut at a light or switch.
