What are these?
Can someone tell me what these are? Trying to figure out if they serve a function... They are located one next to each other on a joist in my basement.

Telephone connections. The first is a two-line "protector" block of a design I have never seen and is also missing three of the protector units. The second is a variation of a "type 66 punchdown" block. Obviously the second piece (the punchdown block) is not in use.
