Automatically switch off appliance when another turns on?

Hi everyone, I've built a photography darkroom in my garage that has an exhaust fan which shares the dryer exhaust ducting.

I'm looking to have the exhaust fan shut off when the dryer is turned on. Is there any simple way to do this?

Welcome to the forums.

Bad idea Barry. Nothing should share the dryer duct..... more so if it's a gas dryer.

What keeps the dust from coming out of your fan when the dryer is on ?
There is a damper on most exhaust fans but I wouldn't trust it to keep out the dust and hot, damp exhaust.

Well I do have a Y ducting adapter which has two dampers built in so one cannot push against the other.

It is a gas dryer.

In addition to being a safety hazard it is a code violation to have ANYTHING but the dryer connected to the dryer vent duct.
