AFCI Breakers..Question

These are no longer simply required in bedrooms correct? It has been expanded to include gathering areas, living rooms, etc right? Is there any reason this code would be modified locally to NOT require them in some locations?

If so, would a media area with a bar count as a location that requires an AFCI or is it gray?

The National Electrical Code requires AFCI circuit breakers almost everywhere except where the requirement is for a GFCI. The NEC has no power of enforcement however unless and until enacted into law on a local or regional level. The legislative body that enacts the local codes can add to or subtract from model codes.

So, to answer your question you need to check your LOCAL code.

You might be OK without if existing dwelling. On last page Houston did not adopt "Branch Circuit Extensions or Modifications - Dwelling units"
