Question Question on diy Generator

Hi there, i am new to this forum

I am trying to work out my generator like those did on youtube

Now i am collecting all the material needed from scraping. And my mind came up this back to basic question on generator/motor. Why is it that the copper wire have to be coil up like round and round? can't I just wrap it like a ball something? Because I am trying to use scrap from old wire, it getting quite frustrating sometimes after cutting through wire after wire...and what if i use copper plate instead of coil?

thanks for answering!! this question might sounds noob somehow lol...

Now.... for us to help you we need to understand what you are doing.
Are you trying to wind your own generator or are you trying to wire something existing ?

I think you need to read about electromagnetism and how motors and generators operate. For a motor or generator to work the electricity must flow around and around many times. The size of the wire and number of times around dictate the finer points of the motor or generator's design like speed, output, capacity...

Generator

A current is generated when a conductor is moved through a magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field.
