Adding a Wall Switch to Remote Control Gas Fireplace

I have a Vexar remote control gas fireplace and have had trouble with it since day one (even had the remote box replaced while it was still under warranty). I have changed batteries in both the remote and the sensor box but the fireplace will only turn on via the remote box switch to on. Has anyone ever installed a wall switch to a remote fireplace and is it pretty easy to do? I'm done with the "convenience" of a remote control and am ready to get up, walk over and flip a switch on the wall (beats moving the screen, opening the lower guard, and turning it on that way, especially trying not to get burned turning it OFF after it's been on a while!) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have moved this to the Electric forum for now. I think the electricians may be able to help you best. Do you have an on line link to a manual for it?

That remote device just shorts the two wires leaving it and going to the fireplace. It's low voltage and low current so any switch can be used.

You could even connect a basic battery operated thermostat to that fireplace.
