Doorbell working but not very well...
My front doorbell has never really worked properly since moving in several years ago. It's your standard Ding Dong chime with two cylinder chimes in the wall unit. If you press the doorbell button hard you can get the first Ding chime to work, but not with any sort of consistency. I removed the plastic plate from the wall unit to watch the chimes go up and down as I hit the button. Everything appears to be moving like it's supposed to - the chimes just aren't descending/ascending far enough to make the Ding Dong noise.
This is all new territory for me. I'm somewhat handy but never really messed around with anything electrical. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to the forums!
You likely need a larger transformer. Look in your basement, likely close to your electrical panel or mechanical equipment for one and see what the VA listed on it. Google "doorbell transformer" to see a picture.

Remove the two wires from the button and touch them together. Does the bell work correctly? If so it is the button.
Another problem is grease in the air can collect on the solenoids and gum them up. Some chime manufacturers recommend cleaning them with a few drops of lighter fluid.
