Hot water heater timer wiring
Not sure if I wired in my new water heater timer correctly. There was no ground wire coming from the hot water heater; just black and red. From the wall was Black, White, and a ground. I connected the ground wire to the timer box, but I don't really see what good that does. How is it grounded if the box is just sitting on top of the water heater?

So should I detach the ground wire from the screw in the timer and attach it to the screw on the water heater?
How is it grounded if the box is just sitting on top of the water heater?
Typically, the timer should be mounted on a wall adjacent to the water heater or even on a floor joist above it if this is in a basement. Then, the 2 hot load wires and ground wire are routed to the K.O. on top of the heater in flexible metal conduit.
