underground wiring from house to garage 100 amp sub panel

hello
i live in Eloy, arizona..i have a 200 amp house service..which i plan on running a under ground cable off to my garage to feed 100 amp sub panel.200 feet away from my house.
I NEED HELP...i am totally flying blind with this project..I KNOW nothing..

1- what type/gauge/name brand wire should i use?
2- bury cable 18 inches?
3- do i need to run the cable in PVC pipe or can i just lay wire in the ground?
Thanks Barry

I made your questions a stand-alone thread.

It would help to know the expected loads in your outbuilding. Rarely would you need that much power.

You can search this board for the topic "subpanel" to get some basic ideas.
