Power Loss Monitoring

Hello,

I am hopeful those who read this forum can offer some suggestions for a item I am looking for. Or tell me if such a device exists. What I hope to do is monitor my home electrical service in the event of a power failure. I would like to be notified in some manner whether it be via phone call or text message when a power loss occurs. Then be notified once street power is restored.

This would allow me the opportunity to start my portable generator and connect it to my transfer switch. Preventing any surprises when I return home to find power has been out for numerous hours.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Also, if there is such a device that would provide the notification I mentioned above.

I believe there are UPS manufacturers that will send you this info via. E-mail.

What would be ideal is an inexpensive home solution that I can simply attach to an outlet and will monitor for loss of power. Then simply notify me as previously stated with a phone call or text message.

Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.

The Reliance is about as inexpensive as you'll find. It's available from many companies and I just left you one company link below.

Thanks very much for the suggestion and link. This appears that it will be a perfect match for what I need for simple power monitoring. And at a great price.

One additional follow-up relating to these "monitors". Are there any that have the ability to notify when street power has been restored? I am thinking the need for that should be less (being that I will likely be back home). However, it might be a nice feature to have if it's available.

I appreciate the information.

4-way switching in a confusing Raised Ranch with Upper, Lower, and Landing

I am not seeing the forest for the trees. I have looked at this a thousand times and I think I may have simply gone down the rabbit hole. It is simple: Raised Ranch with a lower level switch, a landing switch, and an upper level switch. The load is simply a recessed light over the landing. Can turn it on and off from any location. Why don't I just follow what is already there? Well 11 years ago I replaced all the switches with smart switches and as they have slowly failed, I have no tolerance for the complexity any longer so I am going back to Decora mechanical switches. I seem to be one lead shy and believe that I am supposed to tie a jumper somewhere but I am not really seeing the obvious. I also am having trouble identifying the other end of a wire that's in the same sheath with two others. This is leading to the confusion. Attached is a simple drawing of the ends of my wires and the location. Of special note is the three wire from lower to landing (black, white, red) actually has the black end at the upper and the white and red are at the landing). Another note is that the LANDING seems to have no Hot for another 3-way switch (for outside lights) which leads me to believe one of the black from my Upper to Landing is actually meant to be an extension of the HOT to the landing. There is no HOT or LOAD in the lower so that is leading me to believe that this is where my 4 Way switch goes with one 3 Way Upper at HOT and one 3 Way Landing to LOAD (the light in question is lit from a black wire at the landing). [ATTACH=CONFIG]21894[/ATTACH] So what I am thinking is taking one black from UPPER to LANDING and making that HOT. The other black from Upper to Landing gets tied to WHT or RED to give me two travelers to the lower where the four way goes. But I seem to be missing one traveler from the Lower to the Landing. Unless that unknown RED at the upper is tied to the other red somehow. I know I am confusing but I hope it can be followed with my drawing. Again I think I have the right idea but I seem to be missing one traveler... Which as I write this has me thinking I have to check one other thing tonight..... Hmmm.... AGE
