Singe Pole Light switch questions

Hi all,

Trying to install a single pole light switch (programmable light switch) but ran into some wiring I'm not familiar with, hoping someone can help

In my bedroom I have a ceiling fan with a light. I have one switch that controls the light, the other switch controls the fan itself. I am attempting to replace the switch for the light.

The switch I bought shows the instructions in the attachment.

On the old light switch I had a black wire attached to the bottom right terminal, a red wire attached to the upper right terminal, and then ground. The black wire that was attached seemed to be a pig tail attached to a bundle of three wires that was capped off. The bundle of black wires had a wire going to the bottom of the box and a wire going to the top of the box.

Not sure if this matters, but the other light switch that controls the fan has a black wire attached to the lower terminal that is using a pig tail off of the bundle of black wires, and the top terminal has a black wire that directly fed from the top of the box.

From what I understand the red in my case will not be used so I can cap that off (please correct me if I am wrong), and the green is ground. Where I get confused is where to connect the blue and black wires that are coming from the new switch?

Thanks for your help!

Sure! It's a Defiant Daylight Adjusting Indoor Timer switch. Bought it at Home Depot

You had the right diagram it was just too small to see.

Your red wire connects to the timer blue wire.
The black wire from the splice goes to the black wire on the timer.
The white from the timer goes to the white splice inside the box.
