Hi, I am replacing a GFCI outlet in the kitchen. The reason I started this project is simply to replace all of the old brown outlets with newer white ones to modernize the house. I have replaced the outlet correctly, and my lamp that I have plugged in turns on and off appropriately, and the reset and test buttons work. I know that a GFCI protects the whole circuit, so I was expecting the whole circuit to turn off if reset is triggered, whereas only the GFCI power is turning off. Does this mean that the house circuit has not been wired properly, or is this working correctly? Thanks, James. PS this is how the original brown GFCI worked too - I haven't changed the behavior of anything. There are 2 cables at this outlet (6 wires), but there is another outlet next to it with a standard socket, that has its own 2 cables (6 wires). There are no shared wires between outlets.

Can my bathroom lights and outlets run off of the same circuit? If so, I a, assuming 12-2 romex. Is there a preferred order of the receptacles?
