Ground Wire

My cousin just bought a house with already installed flood lights, running through conduit. I noticed there is no ground wires running through the conduit to the light. What is the best way to ground or it is already ground at the junction box?

Since you have conduit a ground can be pulled in. If the conduit is metal and properly installed it is your ground.

Right way to remove under cabinet kitchen lights

Hi--I had very ugly fluorescent under cabinet lights in my kitchen. There were a total of 4 lights spaced a few feet apart along the wall, and there was one toggle switch that controlled all of them together. There is also a toggle switch on the same box for the insinkerator. Anyway, I hired an electrician who came out to remove the lighting. He was very young and working alone so I am not sure what he did was right. He removed the lights and metal casings and there were a bunch of wires coming out from a hole in the wall behind where the lights used to be. He said, "What do you want me to do with the wires?" I said, "I have no idea…do what's safe to do…I'm not an electrician." He then asked if I was planning to put new lights up and I said, "Yes at some point, I am. That could be a year or two from now." He suggested pushing the wires back in the wall. I saw him wrap some tape at the end of each set of wires and pushed them into the hole in the wall. He said he also disconnected the wires from the switch, so the switch would no longer work. I asked if this was safe and he said yes because the switch wasn't hooked up (or something of that sort). Remodel - AFCI Requirement

Hello all, I was just reading a post about AFCI requirements and that brings up a couple of questions. I'll be remodeling the 2nd floor of my home for my younger brother to move into. I know I have to install AFCI breakers. I have a couple of questions; 1) Do the lighting circuits need to be AFCI protected? My guess is yes but I don't want to spend money unnecessarily if I don't have to. 2) I'll be installing a 60 amp sub-panel (same structure) to feed this floor. The 60 amp breaker will be in the main panel and fed to the lugs on the sub-panel. Does the 60 Amp breaker at the main have to be AFCI or just the individual breakers? I checked with our code enforcement officer regarding codes and he said our town follows the NEC code only. Thanks for your time. RogerRead More
