Troubleshooting possible bad 3 way switch

Have a mudroom that has a light switch on the wall as you enter from the garage. Another switch in the kitchen that turn the mudroom light on and off.

Yesterday, I turned the light on from the garage. Went into the kitchen and the light would not turn off in the kitchen. Went back to the other switch and it would not turn the light off either.

Discovered that if I take the switch from the garage and put it mid position (in the middle of the throw) it will turn the light off.

Same thing!?!?! Kitchen switch does absolutely nothing and the onlt way the light goes off is the garage switch (new) being mid position.

We built this house in 2003, so fairly new.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Bill

Sounds like a possible bad switch or a loose connection. If you change it pay special attention to the wire on the odd colored screw.

I swapped the switch out completely. Assuming it was the one that would turn off the light when it was in the mid position.

Same thing still happening
