Turn off breaker to seasonal equipment?

Do you guys turn off the breakers to seasonal equipment?

In my case I was wondering if I should turn off my AC condenser unit outside during the winter....

Doing that will prevent it from cycling on until you remember to turn the breaker back on. My HVAC friends tell me that that could contribute to a shorter lifespan for the unit.

Why were you thinking of doing it?

If it's not coming on it's not using any power, so no need to shut it off.

I cannot think of a single reason why that would be the case unless there is a crankcase heater involved and the breaker wasn't turned on long enough before the unit was started, but that would be very rare for a residential installation.

I think I may have been extrapolating from automotive condensers. Something about circulating the coolant to keep everything lubricated and fittings well sealed?
