240 Socket Type

240 Socket Type

I want to add a 20 amp 240v outlet in my garage. What is the appropriate outlet type? Should it be a 3 wire or 4 wire?

What will be running on this receptacle? Generally a 3 wire NEMA 6-20R is needed.

Above is advice for an attached garage only. You can not add 240 to a detached garage that already has 120. The 120 must be abandoned and a subpanel installed.

yep. an attached garage. That will match well with the compressor that I have.

What would be appropriate for a 30amp circuit. Might consider an heater after the cold winter we had.
