GFCI info

GFCI info

I removed a older ,maybe mid 90s gfci and noticed it had a red wire(tied off) in addition to the green,black and white wire.what are the red wires usually used for on these gfcis ,or were used then on older ones?
any info is appreciated

That is a really old one, maybe as far back as early '80s or very late '70s when they first came out. I have not seen one with a red wire either, but suspect it may have been for a light to alert the homeowner that the GFCI was tripped.

i found out what it was as i thought it may be ,its the load side of gfci..odd but that is what they used way back then i guess..
