replace 5 foot section of wiring in the middle of a run

I damage a 5 foot section of wiring in my garage and want to replace just the 5 feet, without running all new wiring, seems a splice would work but Im asking for a more knowledgeable opinion, Thanks for your time, DCHANSON55

Not a pro "sparky", but I think the usual route is to use two junction boxes, one at each good end and the replacement wire between them.

You can splice it...but you will need to have the connections in accessible boxes. You can't just leave them hanging in the open or in a wall. If this is between 2 outlets...best to replace the whole run between 2 boxes.

Have you turned the breaker all the way off then on? Have you doubel checked all connections? It was cable not not individual wires, correct? Was it a power in cable, a switched hot cable, or a switch loop cable?

You screwed up. Now, replace all the wire between the two existing boxes like Gunguy suggested.

If this is between 2 outlets...best to replace the whole run between 2 boxes.
