No nema 15-40P or 15-40R

I have a 40 amp circuit(4 wire, 240V) and would like to add a plug and receptacle for a specialized piece of equipment. Since there is no nema plug and receptacle for a 40 amp circuit should I use a 15-30P/R or a 15-50P/R ?

Weird rule but for 40 amp circuit you can use a 50 amp outlet. You can't use a 30.

Thanks, I assumed the 50A would be acceptable but I wanted to be sure.
