Motorized Ball Valve trouble wiring

I have an aquaponic garden, in my large 275 gallon tank, I have a gravity fed line which goes through a motorized ball valve connected to a sprinkler timer. The problem I am having is with the ball valve operating. the valve is a 24v AC valve with two wires coming off of it.
I connect one wire to the common and one to the specific zone number in the timer box. When the zones is turned on, the valve makes a motorized sound twice, but does not do anything more. Do I have it hooked up wrong or am I doing something wrong?

Welcome to the forums.

I have a feeling that your sprinkler controller won't run a 500ma device. Most sprinkler valves are half of that current draw.

You need to connect a voltmeter to the motor leads while connected to see what the 24 vac is doing. You may need an additional, larger 24vac supply and a 24vac relay.
