Low voltage to lighting fixtures
Hi Everyone,
I have a 2 gang junction box in my kitchen that had two light switches, that we've just switched to dimmers.
I'm getting a low voltage reading at the pot lights and the regular light box (Each controlled by a separate dimmer).
Coming into the box is:
a) The main feed from the panel
b) A feed out to the under cabinet lighting
c) A feed to the next room, with a small LED strip light
d) A feed to the pot lights (Hooked up to the 1st dimmer)
e) A feed to the chandellier (Hooked up the 2nd dimmer)
All 5 of the neutral wires are tied together.
The main hot wire from the panel is connected directly to the black wire on lines b and c, and to the dimmers.
The first dimmer connects one wire to the 'hot' bundle above and the other to the pot lights, and the 2nd dimmer does the same with the chandellier to the chandellier.
I get 120 V reading on the under cabinet lights and the LED strip in the next room.
I only get 80 V at the pot lights and the chandellier (40v when testing hot to ground).
Is there an issue with how this is wired up, or does it look like a connection issue somewhere? I've checked the connections and everything looks good - and I don't believe it's an open neutral since all of these use a common neutral and 2 of the 4 feeds are fine...
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do the pot lights or the chandelier light up at all ?

Were the lights connected when you read the voltages ?
If the lights look they're running at normal brightness then it doesn't appear there is a problem.
The output from the dimmers might not be true AC and that could be affecting your meter.

Only about half of the pot lights were connected were connected. The hanging light hasn't been hooked up yet.
I've always thought that every outlet had to read the correct voltage, I guess there are exceptions?

If you were checking a receptacle..... it should be 120vac.
If you were checking a light fixture on a switch...... it should be 120vac.
You are checking voltage with an electronic dimmer in line.
