Spa GFI disconnect location

2 Questions:

Why does a spa GFCI disconnect have to be at least 6' from the spa?

Can I put a GFI breaker in the main panel instead of using a local disconnect?

Thanks

The GFI protection can be in the main panel or near the panel. Your choice. Either way you still need the disconnect.

The placement is what the rules call for. Most likely to limit someone touching the disconnect while in the spa.

The minimum distance (like pcboss said) is so you cant touch it while in there, the line of site and max distance is so a technician/electrician can see the disconnect so no one turns it on while working on it.
