Welcome to the forums.

Brush type.....
The DC voltage needed for field excitation is sent to a coil on the rotor through slip rings and brushes.

Brushless type....
The DC voltage needed for field excitation is derived from a high frequency AC voltage coil and a bridge rectifier on the rotor itself.

In a PM generator the field excitation is provided by a permanent magnet on the rotor instead of a coil.

how to improve torque in dc motor??
Increasing the voltage increases the speed. Increasing the current improves the torque.
To increase the current you would have to increase the magnetic field or the wire size.
