Breaker keeps tripping, please help!!

I live in the desert and it is very hot....been runnning my swamp cooler with no problem. Today turn on the water pump and the breaker trips. The fan runs no problem. I can't figure out why the water pump keeps tripping the breaker.

Any help is appreciated before I melt!! Thank you!!!

Sounds like a bad pump. Is the shaft spinning freely? (Disclaimer: Never worked on an swamp cooler.) Do you have a clamp on ampmeter?

As soon as I hit the button to start the pump the breaker trips. The shaft in water pump turns fine.

Is the pump on a dedicated circuit?

Most swamp coolers are very basic and plug into the wall. A blower fan, sometimes a media movement motor and a small recirculating type pump. It sounds like the motor windings may have shorted.

Yeah, it must be the pump....it isn't that old, they only cost $25 - $30 so guess I need a new one.
