1 awg aluminum for a 200amp service
Can 1 awg direct burial aluminum wire be used for a 200amp service at 65 meters in length? My electrician told me it would be okay so long as it is not encased in conduit so as to reduce heat build up. However, there is conduit from the footing to the meter base. Currently the electrical code in Canada states that you can have 135amp service with aluminum 1awg encased in conduit.
I just want to make sure that this service is not compromised.
Thanks

If you plan on using USE and Al. According to the 2014 NEC the conductor size should be 250 kcmil.

#1 AL is not large enough under the NEC, I doubt that it would meet the CEC due to the similar requirements between the two codes.

wire size
U need to get another electrician before he causes some damage. Call building deparment if necessary. they always glad to help. Always put wire in a conduit in case of future problems.3/0 copper or 4/0 aluminum is minimum for 200 amp service on a residence.
