I just installed a celing fan which has a remote
for the fan and the light.

After installation, it all worked properly with the remote.

Except the wall switch does not work.

I hooked up the black to black and white to white.

Their is also a red wire which i just capped off.
I just wasn't sure how to connect this wire so the switch
on the wall can also control the power.
If I do use the wall switch, I am aware that if the switch is turned off that the fan will not work as well since their is only one swtich at the wall.

Thanks to anyone in advance,
Glenn

I'd guess about 50% of all problems in this forum are caused by people who just connect black-to-black and white-to-white without further thought.

You need to give us more information. Tell us all the wires in the ceiling box -- you mentioned black, white and red -- but are there any other wires tucked in the back. Then tell us all the wires in the switch box and what are the colors of the wires attached to the switch itself.

I assume there is just a single switch, and not a 3-way switch pair. Right?

Once you provide this information, the answer will be easy.

ceiling fan

John,
thanks for your reply. I wired the fan for a friend,
so I can't readily check the wires.
However,
I do believe that their was a red, black, and white wire
coming from the swtich on the wall to the fan.
I believe the fan had only the black and white wire.

I believe the instructions stated that if a switch was used it would control both the fan and the light. So with the switch off, the remote would be inoperable.

thanks again,

Glenn
