Romex to splice box

How many romex cables (2 wire with ground - 12-2) can be used in a 4 inch square
splice box - not individual wires, but romex cables.

How deep is the box? Common depths are 1 1/2" and 2 1/8".

I believe the box is 2 1/8 inches but I would have to get up in the attic and check.

In any case can you give the mas romex to each size box?

downgrading a 100 amp subpanel

I bought a home that came with a spa. We sold the spa and now have the existing wiring that I wanted to use for gazebo lighting instead. [B]Here is the setup:[/B] [LIST] [*]100 amp (double 50) circuit breaker at the main panel extends with a large cable (? gauge) through the attic to the other side of the house [*]On the far side of the house the cable comes down to connect with a small box with another 100amp (double 50) circuit breaker. This acted as the main switch for the spa. [*]From there they buried wire in PVC until in reached the spa [/LIST] [B]What I want to do:[/B] [LIST] [*]I need a 15 or 20 amp circuit for the gazebo wiring for lights and an outdoor fan. [*]I am thinking of changing out the 100amp circuit breaker at the small box for a 15 or 20 amp breaker [*]Then I will run 12-2 UF-B wire to the area of the yard where the gazebo is an place an electrical box and go from there. No power in any bonus room, but stairwell light works, same breaker

Today I started replacing the old ivory receptacles and light switches with white ones. This is in a bonus room that has it's own breaker in the breaker panel. I turned off the power, replaced 3 of the 5 outlets and 1 set of light switches (1 switch for a ceiling fan, 1 for a ceiling fan light though there is not one in use right now, and one for 4 can lights). At this point I turned the power back on to verify that all was well and it was, all outlets worked and the fan and can lights worked. Turned power back off and replaced the other two outlets, and then also started to replace the two switches in the stairway which both control a single light. At this point I turned power back on and NOTHING worked. I checked everything and found that the switch in the stairwell was wired wrong so after turning power off I corrected the wiring on this switch. Turned power back on and now the stairwell light works with both switches in the stairwell, BUT I still don't have any power at the outlets in the bonus roon and the fan and can lights don't work. I have a VERY old continuity and voltage tool. I removed all receptacles and light switches in the bonus room (leaving alone the ones in the stairwell). After turning the breaker back on I started checking all the black wires to see if any had power and NONE have power. I am stumped. What do I check or do now? Many thanks!Read More
