Generator inlet wiring
I have an existing 50 amp double pole breaker GFCI on 8 gauge wire that used to run to a hot tub. Right now the wire terminates in a box outside behind panel. I am wanting to install a 30 amp inlet box to plug my 4000W generator into for some backup power. The breaker is at the top of the panel and I have an interlock setup already for it. Question is can I leave existing breaker and wire and install a 30 amp inlet and be ok? This would make it easy and leave the ability to upgrade the inlet to 50 amp later if I would need it. Also the generator has its own 30 amp breaker to protect it. Thanks for the help
