Ceiling fan hookup trips breaker
I just installed a ceiling fan in place of just a light fixture. There are two switches on the wall. I did the proper wiring (to my knowledge) but everytime I click the switch for the fan, the breaker trips. When I turn the breaker back on and flip the light switch, it works. But when I flip the other switch, it gets tripped again.
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Thank you!

First, welcome top the forums.
Please do not post the same problem in multiple areas.
It certainly sounds like it is not wired properly, but more information is needed.
Did both switches operate the ceiling light? What make and model fan? What color wires from old wiring and what color wires from the fan?

Best guess is your connecting both sides of the power in cable to the switch.

Sorry about the duplicate posts.
Here is how I wired it:
Ceiling White – to – Fan White (Neutral)
Ceiling Pink (Red) – to – Fan Blue (Light)
Ceiling Grey (Black) – to – Fan Black (Fan)
Ceiling Bare Copper – to – Fan Green (Ground)
Light switch on the wall works fine. Ceiling fan craps it out.
Is it possible to have a fan have TOO much power for the outlet?

I'm not sure if it ever worked. When we moved in, there was only a light fixture and we just now wanted to replace them with fans and lights.
I should note that another outlet within the room that I plugged a vacuum into also gets tripped when I turn the vacuum on.
I'm stumped.

When I remove the wall switch, I see the two boxes. One has a pink/red wire coming out of the top portion. The other has a gray wire coming out of the top. Both boxes have black wires coming out of the bottom portion. I also see whites/bare coppers all in there. Does that help?

Could you post pictures with the switches pulled out so we can see all the wires and connections? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/li...-pictures.html
Did you change any of the wiring in the switch box?
What I would expect to see there is one 2-conductor cable and one 3-conductor cable.
Both boxes have black wires coming out of the bottom portion. What are the boxes you write about. Do you mean the switches or is there two separate switch boxes.
What I would expect to see there is one 2-conductor cable and one 3-conductor cable.
- All whites connected to each other and nothing else.
- Two pigtails to the black of the 2-conductor cable.
- One pigtail to each switch.
- Red of the 3-conductor cable to the other screw of one switch.
- 3-conductor black to the other switch.
