Surface Mount Conduit Switch Box

Im going to install the conduit for a 3 way light in my basement stairwell. The conduit will be surface mounted along the stairway wall. I need a switch box at the top and bottom of the stairs. Not interested in wiremold.

Should I use a handybox for the switch boxes or something else?

Are you planning on metal conduit or pvc? How are your bending skills?

I would use a 1900 box (4 inch square) with a raised switch cover.

I was going to use 1900 boxes but instead I went with the 4" boxes with the rounded corners for exposed work. Or would you also consider that a 1900 box?

A 1900 box is 4 inches square. Some have square corners and some have rounded corners, it depends on how the box was manufactured. Look at the first link I posted in post #5, you'll see both types of 1900 boxes in the images. There is also such a thing as a 2 gang handy box that is 4 inches square and looks a lot like a 1900 box, but the raised 1900 device covers will not fit them. The 2 gang handy box is relatively rare, I have never seen one at a supply house before.
