Exclamation HELP, 3 way switch with knob and tube

Was hoping someone could fill in the 'magic' section i labeled on this photo. I'm looking to re-wire but would to understand how this 3 way could be currently working in my home.

Thanks everyone.

Your probably missing a junction box. Check the attic.

Three way wired as a switch leg to a possibly hidden junction box.

How were the switches wired up originally?

Be sure that the wire that used to be connected to the common terminal (usually stained dark) of the old 3 way switch is connected to the common terminal of the new switch.

Otherwise the wires are connected up to the new switch the same way as for the old switch.

not new yet

Hi Allan, there is no 'new' yet. When I get around to figuring out how in the world im going to fish to those fixtures I'll be wiring it correctly. I was trying to understand even with the potential for a hidden junction box how this was working.

Other than out of curiosity, why do you care?

well considering the only K&T was at the light... i was hoping to piggy back on the new 14/2-14/3 NDM and only do what was required instead of abandoning what looks to be mostly new wiring.

This might be a dead-end three way. Can you check for continuity between the ends of the three wire cables?
