Generator - 30 Amp run to Transfer Switch

Guys,

I'm installing a manual transfer switch for a portable 8kW generator. The input receptacle will be about 70-80 feet from the transfer switch.

Can I run 10/3 or should I jump up to 8/3 given the length. I seem to recall under 100' is acceptable but over 100' voltage drop can be an issue.

Thoughts?

Yes, under 100' is acceptable.

AC Unit makes lights flicker when it starts

I just had a new HVAC system installed a couple of days ago. Today I noticed the lights flicker when the AC unit kicks on. Now the flicker only seems to affect the incandescent lights and not the others (LED, CFL). After searching online a bit I read somewhere that incandescent lights are very sensitive to voltage drops and even small voltage drops will cause them to flicker. I was going to call the HVAC company to see what they say about it, but before I waste their time and mine I wanted to see what everyone else thought about this. Is it something I should be concerned about or is it really no big deal. Also I assume the importance of the voltage drop depends on the amount of the volts that I am losing. Is there a way I could test this on my own with a multimeter or other similar tool? ThanksRead More

Outdoor outlet problem

Outdoor outlet has lost power. No power coming into the box so I am trying to find the origination point. Location is on the patio outside of the kitchen. Original construction outlet. I checked the indoor outlet closest to the outdoor and found it has no tail. The outdoor outlet does not have it's own breaker. As a rule of thumb, to what circuit would the outdoor outlet be attached? The kitchen cabinets are on the interior side and the building is stucco construction so I don't want to go fishing.
