Smoke alarm behaving strangely. Please help!

Hello,

I bought a new smoke detector (Kidde brand) for my kitchen and when I install it everything with the new alarm is fine...but the CO/Smoke detector in the basement goes on a beeping rampage. It says "Fire, Fire" and will NOT stop beeping even after I waited for 45-60 seconds hoping it would stop. I put the old smoke alarm back in the kitchen and the basement one is now quiet...I have no idea why the detector in the basement is going off when I connect the one in my kitchen. All the alarms are the same brand in the house. Please can anyone give me some ideas?

update: I just switched the CO/smoke detector from the basement to upstairs in my kitchen and I took the new Smoke detector and put it downstairs, as soon as I connected the basement one in the CO one in my kitchen went off again. This must mean there's something wrong with this CO detector right?...Just doesn't make sense because a) it's fairly new b) it doesn't exhibit this behavior when I have the old smoke detector in.

You said they are the same brand. Is the new detector on the list of compatible units of the old ones?

I would recommend replacing the old detector also. It sounds like it is not compatible with the new one.
